Grab your picnic blanket and head to Springfield’s Forest Park for Concerts in the Park, happening Thursday evenings this summer. Enjoy live music starting at 6:30 p.m., with Madd Eatz food trucks and beer from White Lion Brewing available beginning at 6:00 p.m.

All concerts are free and open to the public. Guests may enter the park at no charge after 5:30 p.m. via the Sumner Avenue or Route 5 entrances. In case of rain, performances will move to the Carriage House Tent.

Mayor Sarno, Parks Director Ashe, City Councilor Lavar Click Bruce and city officials announce the City of Springfield’s 2026 Summer “Movies in the Park” Series 

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Director of Parks, Buildings, and Recreation Management (PBRM) Tom Ashe, City Councilor Lavar Click Bruce, Special Events Coordinator Sydney Pasini, and park officials joined at Forest Park on Tuesday morning to share this year’s lineup and schedule for the city’s 2026 Summer “Movies in the Park” Series.  

This annual tradition of free public summer entertainment is a great family friendly activity, to enjoy outdoors in our beautiful parks. The “Movies in the Park” series is the city’s annual summer public movie nights being held in neighborhood parks throughout Springfield with popular family movies being shown on the giant inflatable screen. 

Mayor Sarno states, “I am thrilled to have our beloved movies and concerts returning to our parks. My administration remains committed to enhancing the enjoyment of our beautiful parks systems, and this year’s lineup will bring a lot of enjoyment to family and friends. Forest Park is especially beautiful this time of year and these free, family-friendly movies and concerts are an opportunity to get outside and enjoy the park together. I am so appreciative on PBRM Director Tom Ashe and team for their continued dedicated stewardship of our park system for the enjoyment of current and future generations of Springfield residents.” 

PBRM Director Tom Ashe stated, “We appreciate Mayors Sarno’s commitment to offer programming and activities for our residents within our beautiful parks that are accessible throughout the city. At the Mayor’s directive we made sure to have a move night in every neighborhood, and I appreciate Councilor Lavar Click Bruce helping us make sure that all neighborhoods were covered. The Movies in the Park series provides an opportunity for the whole family to be together under the stars and enjoying time together while watching the big screen. Bring your favorite movie snack and come have a good time!”

City Councilor Lavar Click-Bruce shared, “Going to the movies now-a-days as a family can cost over $100 dollars. I really appreciate that we are able to have this great family-friendly event series in all neighborhoods, at no cost to our residents. Let’s have a safe, fun, and healthy summer.”

The Dive In Movie Night at Forest Park hosted by the Springfield Parks and Aquatics team was a success last night despite the heavy rain. Hundreds of swimmers (who safely used the pool in rotations), enjoyed cooling off at Forest Park Pool and near-by splash pad with live music by local artist Alex Rohan, lawn games, and families and community coming together for summer fun. Plenty of fun was had until the rain. Unfortunately, with the downpours and winds, the giant inflatable movie screen could not be used and the showing of Finding Nemo was cancelled for the evening. 

There is potential severe weather coming this afternoon and evening, July 1st, with more rain and thunderstorms expected, as well as humidity and extreme heat. Therefore, there will not be a make-up date for this event. However, more movie screenings are coming this summer.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience and that we could not enjoy the movie together last night, or make it up tonight due to severe weather. Mayor Sarno, the Department of Parks, Buildings, and Recreation Management, and the Aquatics team deeply appreciate everyone who came out and enjoyed a wonderful summer evening in the Park on Tuesday. 

The city’s annual summer “Movies in the Park Series” will continue this summer with various family films to be shown on the giant inflatable movie screen at parks throughout the city. Stay tuned for the full-line up of movies to be announced next week! The Summer Concert Series at the Forest Park Amphitheater will also be announced soon. Join us on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 (Rain Date: Wednesday, July 1) as we kick off the 2026 public pool season with a family-friendly evening at Forest Park Pool.

Free admission to Forest Park.

The celebration begins with a free Neighborhood Pool Party from 5:00 PM–8:00 PM at Forest Park Pool. Springfield residents can enjoy swimming in the pool, splash pad access, yard games and activities, live music featuring local musician Alex Rohan, and refreshments.

Staff will also be on-site issuing free summer pool passes. Guests planning to visit Springfield public pools this season are encouraged to stop by to register.

At 8:30 PM, guests are invited to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and picnic items and head to the field next to the pool for a screening of Finding Nemo.

This event offers an evening of swimming, music, games, and a movie under the stars.

Special Tennis in the Parks – For Springfield Youth Only!

Springfield Parks and Recreation is excited to team up with Tennis in the Parks, guided by a USTA-approved coach! Designed for beginners and first-time players, this program makes learning tennis fun and easy through play.

Participants will develop skills to serve, rally, and play, using age-appropriate rackets, modified tennis balls, and engaging activities designed to help players learn the game quickly. Plus, every player attending their first session will receive a new racquet and ball to keep!
