Remembering the Irish Hunger Strikers
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Thomas M. Ashe, Executive Director of the Department of Parks, Buildings and Recreation Management (DPBRM) will host a special Irish Remembrance Event on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at the historic Rose Garden in Forest Park. The afternoon will bring together members of Springfield’s Irish-American community, families, friends, and residents to honor Ireland’s history while celebrating the enduring cultural heritage and traditions that have enriched the City of Springfield for generations.
The year 2026 also marks the 45th anniversary of the 1981 Irish Hunger Strike, a significant and solemn chapter in Ireland’s modern history. The event will remember the ten men who lost their lives during the strike, as well as the families and communities affected by the conflict, while reflecting on the importance of political expression, reconciliation, and the enduring pursuit of peace.
Together, these anniversaries provide an opportunity to remember Ireland’s complex history, honor those who came before us, and celebrate the traditions and heritage that continue to connect generations of Springfield families to Ireland.
The program will begin at 1:30 p.m. Irish Traditional Session Music. Followed by remarks and guest speakers at 2:15 p.m. Then live musical performance by The Pourmen from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m.
Hailing from New Bedford, Massachusetts, The Pourmen blend Celtic, Folk, Country, and Punk Rock influences to create heartfelt songs and an energetic live performance, providing a fitting celebration of Irish heritage and culture.
Guests are encouraged to bring family and friends. Attendees are welcome to bring lawn chairs or blankets.

Pumpkin Stroll After Dark
Join us for the second annual Pumpkin Stroll After Dark, hosted by Mayor Domenic Sarno at Springfield’s historic Aquatic Gardens in Forest Park from Thursday, October 29 through Saturday, October 31. Step into the storybook autumn evening as the gardens will glow with the gentle magic of the season — a place where pumpkins shimmer, whispers of whimsy drift through the air, and surprises seem to hide just beyond the lantern light.
Guests are invited to stroll along winding paths that trace the over a century-old lily ponds — a serene landscape seemingly untouched by time — as they enjoy an enchanting fall atmosphere filled with imagination and friendly Halloween spirit. Complimentary cider and doughnuts await those who linger beneath the harvest moon.
Admission and parking are free, and shuttle service is available at no charge from the parking area to the Aquatic Gardens for added convenience. Join us from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. nightly for a spellbinding celebration of community creativity and seasonal wonder at Pumpkin Stroll After Dark — where the beauty of Forest Park will shine brightest under the harvest moon.

Tennis in the Park - Fall 2026
Youth Tennis Program
Get on the court and learn the fundamentals of tennis in a fun, supportive environment! Led by a USTA-approved coach, this program focuses on developing skills to serve, rally, and play.
Players will learn the basics using age-appropriate racquets and tennis balls, helping them build confidence and enjoy the game while developing their skills.
