Pools Employment
The Springfield Parks, Buildings & Recreation Management Division hires Aquatics staffing year round.
School year staff positions include: Bath Attendants, Lifeguards, Swim Instructors and Aqua-Zumba Instructors. Staff is needed for swim teams, Family Swim nights, Learn to Swim classes, Aqua-Zumba classes, Aquaventure classes, and private permit use.
Summer staff positions include: Bath Attendants, Lifeguards, Assistant Water Safety Director's, and a Water Safety Director.
Work hours vary from Sunday to Saturday 35-40 hours per week. Weekend, part-time employees are also welcome to apply. Life guards make $12-14.50 per hour and bath attendants make $9 per hour. All applicants must be at least 16 years of age.

Next, Click on the Employment Opportunities link, scroll down and choose the position you are applying for. Make sure to fill in as much information as possible. You will get emails throughout the process, keeping you up to date. If you are selected for an interview the Aquatics Director, Joe Federico will call you or send an email. If you do not have access to a computer then you can go down to City Hall and go to room 018 (the Personnel Office) and use one of their computers to fill out this appilcation.
NOTE: Positions fill fast so make sure all of your certifications are up to date and you have copies of them.
Every lifeguard for the City of Springfield needs to complete the following swim test in order to be guaranteed a job:
- Swim 300 meters both free style and breast stroke
- Retrieve a 10 pound brick from the bottom of the pool
- Tread water for 2 minutes using no hands.
- Perform the appropriate rescue to save a victim, in 3 different scenarios.
- Perform a spinal rescue in shallow water or in deep water
§ Following the swim test, if you are hired, we will do all of the paperwork, the same night. A State Issued picture ID is required and one of the following, a birth certificate or a social security card.
