|   City News

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Chief Development Officer Tim Sheehan announced today that the Springfield Redevelopment Authority (SRA) has unanimously elected Margaret L. Boyle as its new Chair.

Boyle, who was appointed to the SRA in 2022, assumes the seat from longtime Chair Armando Feliciano, who has served on the board for over two decades. Feliciano, who will remain on the board as Interim Treasurer, nominated Boyle to be the Chair at the SRA’s Annual Meeting.

“I want to first congratulate and thank Margaret Boyle for taking on this important role for the future of Springfield, it is well earned with her background,” said Mayor Domenic J. Sarno. “I also want to thank Armando Feliciano for his years of service at the SRA as Chair, helping to lead many key projects including Union Station and Court Square into completion.”

Boyle is the Chief of Staff and Assistant Vice President for Government Affairs at Western New England University and was formerly Communications Director for U.S. Congressman Richard E. Neal.

“I am honored to take on the role of Chair with the SRA,” said Boyle. “I am proud of the work we do in community and economic development and look forward to advancing the many important projects the SRA currently has in motion.”

In other SRA Board news, Ellen Hurley who was appointed to the SRA earlier in 2024, has been elected as Secretary. Longtime SRA member and labor representative, Fiore Grassetti, has completed his term, and Michael Langone was confirmed by Springfield City Council on February 10th.  Langone is the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 104 Business Manager and Financial Secretary.

“I’d like to thank Fiore for his tireless efforts on the SRA representing labor and ensuring that utilizing local labor and providing quality jobs to Springfield residents is a top priority for redevelopment projects,” said Mayor Sarno.

The SRA is an all-volunteer board, no members are compensated for their time in serving. The SRA aims to improve the quality of life for Springfield residents by helping to restore blighted properties, create new jobs and housing opportunities, and improve the city's economy.
