Mayor Domenic J. Sarno issued a statement in response to Baystate Health and Wellpoint reaching an agreement. Baystate Health and Wellpoint announced today they have reached a new multi-year contract that maintains patients’ access to all Baystate Health hospitals, facilities, doctor offices, convenient care, and ancillary service centers as well as its affiliated physicians through Baycare Health Partners on January 1, 2025 and beyond.
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno states, “My number one priority was to stand up to protect and fight for my employees, retirees, and their families so that they would not lose access to their critical medical care at Baystate – the only level one trauma center in Western Massachusetts. I had spoken to both Baystate and Wellpoint officials on this issue priorly about my extreme concerns on this situation and to come to a plausible agreement. Yesterday, late afternoon, I spoke to Baystate Health CEO Peter Banko and Wellpoint General Manager David Morales to thank them for coming to an accord. This gives peace of mind once again to my city employees, retirees, and their families that they will see no interruption or lapse in their health care services within the Baystate Health system.”
