Mayor Sarno Announces IBPO Local 364 Votes to Ratify New Police Contract

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Human Resources and Labor Relations Director Attorney William Mahoney announced today that the International Brotherhood of Police Officers (IBPO) Local 364 has voted to ratify a new labor contract.

The IBPO Local 364 represents just under 500 police officers with the Springfield Police Department. 

Mayor Sarno states, “I want to thank Human Resources and Labor Relations Director Attorney Bill Mahoney, Police Superintendent Larry Akers, CAFO Cathy Bouno, my Chief of Staff Bill Baker and Officer Martin Curley and the Union leadership of IBPO Local 364 for all of us working together and negotiating a fair and mutually beneficial contract for all parties.  I deeply appreciate the continued efforts from our brave and dedicated men and women of our Springfield Police Department.  My administration looks forward to continuing to move our Springfield Police Department forward with the many reforms and initiatives, many of which have already been implemented, that will provide the best public safety aspects and enhance the quality of life for our residents and business community.  Police Superintendent Larry Akers and I will continue to move our Police Department forward so that we have the best police force for all our citizens.”

Police Superintendent Lawrence E. Akers stated, “I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Mayor Sarno, Attorney William Mahoney, and IBPO Local 364 President, Officer Martin Curley, for their collaboration and commitment in reaching common ground on a new contract for our patrol officers.  Our officers do far more than enforce the law—they serve, protect, and often take on roles that extend well beyond their formal job descriptions. Finalizing this contract allows them to stay focused on what matters most: serving and protecting our community. This agreement is a significant step forward in ensuring that our police department continues to modernize and advance, so we can deliver the highest level of service to the residents of our city.”

HR and Labor Relations Director Mahoney stated, “The City’s bargaining team congratulates IBPO Local 364 President Martin Curley the Union’s bargaining team and the bargaining unit members on the ratification of their Union contracts which will provide the necessary tools to make continuous improvements in the Springfield Police Department. These contracts benefit our employees as well as the citizens of Springfield.”

IBPO President Martin Curley said, “On behalf of the IBPO I appreciate Mayor Sarno and his administration’s continued belief and support of our men and women in blue. We are proud to continue to serve and provide for the public safety for our citizens and businesses of Springfield.”

The ratified contract covers the period from July 1, 2024-June 30, 2028. The contract will now go before in the City Council for consideration and vote of approval.
