PVTA will implement enhanced service that will begin on Sunday, March 23rd with additional funding received in FY24 and FY25, thanks to the continued support from the Massachusetts Legislature and the Governor.
Over the past 18 months, PVTA implemented route enhancements that improved transit service by adjusting area coverage, frequency of service, hours of service and by adding weekend service.
Beginning on March 23rd, Sunday service will be added to the B17 (Wilbraham via Worthington and Wilbraham Road), G19 (Holyoke – Chicopee – South Hadley), and the R22 (Holyoke – Chicopee).
“The implementation of Sunday service marks a significant step forward in enhancing public transportation options for our riders. It reflects a commitment to meeting the needs of residents and fostering a more connected and accessible community” said Sandra E. Sheehan, PVTA Administrator.
Additionally, thanks to funding from MassDOT’s Regional Transit Authority Connectivity Grant Program, PVTA is adding a new route which will also begin service on March 23, 2025. This new route, the X94 Outer Crosstown, connects East Longmeadow and Ludlow, providing a much needed crosstown connection between the two communities.
The route will provide bus service along North Main St. in East Longmeadow connecting to Elm St. via Mapleshade. The route will follow Parker St. in Springfield and ultimately connect to East St. in Ludlow and will service Chapin St. and Center St. before ending at the Ludlow Big Y.
The X94 route will operate on weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays with hourly frequency and will provide easier crosstown trips, reducing travel time for passengers traveling between these communities, with transfers available to G1, G2, B6, and X90.
The PVTA is the largest regional transit authority in Massachusetts with 189 buses, 138 vans and 24 participating member communities. Additional information about the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority may be found at www.pvta.com or by calling 1-877-779-7882.
