Springfield, MA – Mayor Domenic J. Sarno is proud to congratulate Springfield native and graduate of Springfield’s Central High School Nicholas Cummings, on having his original play selected for the prestigious New York Theater Festival.
Nicholas Cummings, a playwright who graduated from Central High School in 2015 where he performed in Theater and participated in JROTC, now lives New York City working for MassMutual and pursuing playwriting, improv, and sketch writing. Nicholas submitted his original play “The Great Pistachio” to the New York Theater Festival and the play was selected to debut this March at the Hudson Guild Theatre during the fall/winter 2025 New York Theater Festival.
Mayor Sarno states, “Congratulations to playwright Nicholas “Nick” Cummings, a Springfield kid, and my very talented nephew, son of my sister & brother-in-law Giovanna “Joanna” and Shawn Cummings. His work was selected for the upcoming New York Theater Festival. His play “The Great Pistachio,” which he wrote and also stars in, was selected among other self-produced work to be featured at the Festival in NYC this March – ‘Hey, you never know, maybe the next Martin Scorsese, Spike Lee, or Steven Spielberg!’ Congrats, and good work. We’re all proud of you.”
