The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program announced this month that Andy Li, a senior Robotics student at Roger L. Putnam Academy, has been nominated for the prestigious recognition.
Considered one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students, the program was established in 1964 by President Lyndon B. Johnson to celebrate the most distinguished graduating seniors for their academic excellence.
Administered by the U.S. Department of Education, the program selects nominees by invitation only. The final selection of up to 161 U.S. Presidential Scholars is made by the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars. Those chosen receive the Presidential Scholars Medallion during a special ceremony in Washington, D.C., in June.
Li is one of only seven vocational students in Massachusetts to earn this distinguished nomination. In recognition of their achievements, the nominees will be honored at the Massachusetts Association of Vocational Administrators’ General Membership Meeting in March.
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno was proud to congratulate Andy on this incredible achievement.
