Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Health and Human Services (HHS) Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris announced today that the City of Springfield Department of Health & Human Services is taking contributions of new blankets, hats, gloves, and scarves to help out unsheltered individuals and meet their basic need for warmth. Mayor Sarno urges residents to come together to provide any measure of assistance.
During these colder months, the Department of Health and Human Services has experienced a rise in requests for blankets and warm clothing. With many shelters stepping up and stretching their capacity to meet the demand for a warm place to sleep this winter, clean warm blankets are needed, along with hats, gloves, and scarves this winter. This initiative to collect blankets is derived from the efforts of the city’s Cold Weather Task Force and coincides with the warming facilities that are accessible and open around the city.
Blanket, hat, scarf, and glove Donations (clean, unused) can be dropped off at the locations below. No appointments are necessary.
