City of Springfield announces end of season dates for Public Golf Courses

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Executive Director of Parks, Buildings, and Recreation Management (PBRM) Thomas Ashe announced today the end of season dates for the City of Springfield’s two municipal golf courses.

Veterans Golf Course will close for the season on Sunday, November 17, 2024. Franconia Golf Course will close on Sunday, December 1, 2024. Both courses will reopen in the Spring. Veterans is scheduled to close a few weeks earlier than Franconia due to renovations at the Veterans Clubhouse. The golf season in this area is largely based on weather and typically starts in spring and continues through summer and into fall.

Both Franconia Golf Course and Veterans Golf Course are 18-hole courses that have undergone $5 million in renovations. Both courses are open during the season from Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to dusk, and Saturday and Sunday from 6:30 a.m. to dusk. Tee times are required on the weekends, tee times and walk-ins are welcome during the week. Visit the golf course website for more information: https://vets-franconia-golf.com/  or call 413-787-6467.

Mayor Sarno states, “I commend and thank our Parks, Buildings, and Recreation Management (PBRM) team for their ongoing excellent stewardship of our municipal golf courses. Our public golf courses are being nationally recognized – Mass Golf recently chose our Veterans course to host two major USGA Qualifying events – and are quickly becoming a hidden jewel in the region, while also offering some of the most affordable rates in the area.  The investments, renovations, and new accessibility equipment at both Franconia and Veterans have enhanced the quality of play for players of all ages and levels. We are looking forward to showcasing the clubhouse improvements next season.”

PBRM Director Ashe stated, “Thanks to Mayor Sarno’s support, our municipal golf courses have stood out as popular courses both regionally and nationally.  The city of Springfield’s recent $5 million investment in the renovation of both of its municipal golf courses (Veteran’s Memorial and Franconia Golf Course) is already paying dividends.  We have also been able to reintroduce the city’s youth golf program for our Springfield middle schoolers and add two adaptive golf carts for folks with disability challenges. Next season we will have two completely renovated clubhouses and look forward to expanding more programs. I commend and thank Course Managers Dave Couco, Rick Lombardi, Anthony Kowal, our dedicated PBRM team, and Mayor Sarno for his continued support of our beautiful Springfield golf courses and recreational spaces.”
