Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Administrative Assistant Minerva Marrero, Director of Parks, Buildings, and Recreation Management (PBRM) Thomas Ashe and team joined with city and state officials and the family and friends of the late Ana E. Andino Santiago, a community champion, for a special memorial bench dedication in Ana Andino’s memory at Kenefick Park on Tuesday.
Today, at Kenefick Park on Plainfield Street in the North End, a memorial bench with her name, “Ana E. Andino Santiago” was dedicated in her memory and the memorial stone with the words “Mi corazon estara siempre con el North End” which translates to “My heart will always be in the North End” was unveiled. Ana’s daughter spoke and thanked the community for honoring her mother’s legacy, and many family and community members also attended. City Councilor Maria Perez, State Representative Carlos Gonzalez, and City Council President Mike Fenton, License Commissioner Rosa Espinoza, and the Women of the Vanguard also joined.
Mayor Sarno states, “Ana Andino was full of energy and love for her city and community. She touched so many people’s live over the years through her dedicated work in our community, from the New North Citizens Council to the Puerto Rican Cultural Center and Springfield Partners to name a few. Ana did seek accolades for her advocacy, her kindness and compassionate spirit drew her toward helping others. She is dearly missed. We are proud to honor Ana’s memory and legacy of giving back right here in the neighborhood she always kept in her heart.”
