Mayor Domenic J. Sarno states, “It was great, again, to be with ‘gentleman’ Tim Mayotte, one of Springfield’s favorite sons, and my old soccer teammate and Focus Springfield Director Steve Cary, ‘aka…the halfback – HB!’ From the tennis courts of Forest Park and Cathedral High School, Tim rose to the heights of the Tennis world as a Wimbledon semi-finalist, Olympic silver medalist, and a winner of a number of tournaments too. Tim still looks great and always has been so genuine and humble – coming from the good Mayotte family stock. I vividly remember his Wimbledon run, we were all glued to the TV and the front page for update stories in the Springfield Daily News newspaper. Tim has never forgotten his Springfield and Forest Park roots and will continue to give back with an upcoming fundraising event to enhance our/his beloved Forest Park tennis courts – stay tuned.
