|   City News

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Patrick Sullivan, Executive Director of Parks, Buildings and Recreational Management, and Aquatics Director Joseph Federico are pleased to announce that the City of Springfield Aquatics Department will be offering a Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course during the month of April at Milton Bradley Elementary School, 22 Mulberry Street, Springfield, MA. The training course is free for Springfield Public Schools students.

Pre-registration is required and space is limited.  The course will run Tuesday, April 16th through Friday, April 19th, 2024, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

An in-pool test will be given to all participants prior to the first day on Wednesday, April 10th at 5:30 pm.  Based on the results of the swim test, participants who pass will continue on to the full course.  Attendance at and full participation in all sessions is required.

Mayor Sarno states, “We are thrilled to be able to offer this lifeguard training course for free to our Springfield Public Schools students during their school vacation week in April. Getting trained and certified early in the year can lead to great summer job opportunities as a certified lifeguard. I encourage our Springfield Public Schools students to explore this opportunity. Thank you to Aquatics Director Joe Federico and our dedicated Aquatics team for their continued efforts throughout the year to provide safe, healthy, and fun aquatics facilities and programs.”

Persons 15 years of age and over can register for the course.  Please see the attached flyer for course times.

The program certifications are free for students of Springfield Public Schools.

Cost for the program is $175.00 (cash or check only) per person for Springfield residents and $225.00 for non-City residents.  All fees must be paid by the first day of class.
