|   Community News

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Police Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood and officers from the Springfield Police Department attended the grand re-opening for Café D’Jolie on Tuesday, February 20th. Located in the Market Place at 1365 Main Street, the dining establishment offers a wide variety of delicious foods, including breakfast, lunch and dinner. Café D’Jolie is owned and operated by Pedro Perez, the good Samaritan and Carnegie Hero Fund Awardee who risked his life to assist a Springfield Police officer that was struggling to subdue a suspect that had tried to grab the officer’s firearm and fired it twice. The suspect ended up shooting himself and nearly missed Perez instead hitting his truck.

Mayor Sarno states, “Police Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood and I are proud and excited to join with Pedro and his dedicated staff for the grand re-opening of his restaurant, Café D’Jolie.  Mr. Perez was in the right place at the right time and did not hesitate to offer assistance when one of our officers was struggling to subdue a violent suspect.  Thanks to his efforts, I have no doubts that lives were saved.  Congratulations Pedro on the reopening of your Café.  Wishing you continued success and good health.”
