Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Patrick Sullivan, Executive Director of Parks, Buildings and Recreational Management (PBRM), Deputy Director of Veterans Services Joe DeCaro, and Chief of Staff Tom Ashe met with Springfield Veterans Activities Committee Chairman Bill Walls and veteran Joe Hendrix today to discuss initial plans for the City of Springfield to install a new veteran’s monument along Veterans Way on Court Street. The plan would look to install a Global War on Terrorism Memorial monument to honor veterans and members of the Armed Forces on active duty that have served in support of the Global War on Terrorism.

Mayor Sarno states, “I want to thank Cabinet Head HHS Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris, Deputy Director Joe DeCaro, Bill Walls – who brought this initiative forth, and Joe Hendrix for taking the time to meet with me and Patrick Sullivan to discuss initial plans to locate and install a new veteran’s monument along our Veterans Way to honor our veterans and active-duty service members that have served in support of the Global War on Terrorism – which in essence continues to be America’s longest conflict.  We must always remember and never forget; America is still the greatest country in the world.  Thanks to the sacrifices and dedication of our proud Veterans and their families, we are the beacon of democracy, strength, hope, and opportunity, It is only fitting that we look to expand our Veterans Way with this new monument.  Stay tuned for more information to come.  God Bless the United States of America and God Bless our Veterans.”

More information will be shared at a later date, including how to donate to support the creation and installation of the City of Springfield’s new Global War on Terrorism Memorial monument to honor our veterans.
