Mayor Sarno states, “Bitter-sweet, Sandy Federico has done a tremendous job as our Director of Elder Affairs, working with our seniors and supporting the various programs and services at our senior centers. Her love and compassion for our seniors was second-to-none. This was never more evident than during the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. She was the steady hand overseeing the department, even when we had to close down our senior centers out of an abundance of caution, but Sandy and her dedicated team never forgot about them. Working closely with Health and Human Services Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris, she created numerous special drive-through events at the Raymond Jordan Senior Center for our seniors – many of which I attended too, to help keep them active and involved and let them know we hadn’t forgotten about them. Her and her staff also checked in with our seniors while they were at home and offered food delivery services for those who needed it. When we were able to reopen our senior centers, Sandy was right there to welcome them back. From my administration providing a dedicated city bus to take our seniors on scheduled trips, to offering a hot lunch program, Sandy was always there to make sure that our seniors received the very best. Thank you, Sandy for a job well done and for caring and providing for our seniors. I wish you continued success and good health on a well-deserved retirement.”
