|   City News

The City of Springfield Department of Public Works (DPW) announced today a traffic alert for the “X” intersection area due to an underground electrical malfunction earlier this morning. All traffic is advised to avoid the area of the “X” intersection until further notice.

DPW, along with the Springfield Police Department, have installed traffic detour routes, however traffic flow will be impacted possibly up to 36 hours while repairs are done.  This includes the sections of Sumner Ave, Belmont Ave, and Dickinson Street that enter the “X” intersection.

Eversource has notified the city that they anticipate minimum disruption of service for residents and businesses in the affected area, as all impacted customers have been notified and backup generators are being brought in to mitigate the disruption of service while their crews make the necessary repairs.  Eversource indicates that there is no threat to the public.
