Unknown Suspect Wielding Knife Vandalizes Mayor’s Vehicle: Tires Slashed - Suspect Still At Large -

At around 2:00 pm today, Wednesday, January 17th, an unknown suspect wielding a knife vandalized Mayor Domenic J. Sarno’s vehicle while parked at City Hall, slashing all four of the tires. The unknown suspect remains at large and is believed to still be in possession of a large knife. The public is advised to not approach and to call the Springfield Police Department if they recognize the individual.

Mayor Sarno states, “Take myself out of the picture, this is a serious act of violence with a deadly weapon.  A concern for our residents and the public, with this individual walking around our streets with this weapon.  It is very concerning that someone is acting out like this and endangering the public.  I have the utmost confidence in our brave and dedicated men and women of the Springfield Police Department to find this individual and apprehend him before any other vehicles or property are damaged, or worse if he were to attack someone with this knife.”

The Springfield Police Department is currently investigating this matter.  Anyone with any information to share with the Springfield Police Department can do so anonymously via the Text-A-Tip program.
