Mayor and City Council Inauguration 2024

The 2024 inauguration ceremony for Mayor and City Council was on Monday, January 1, 2024 at the historic Symphony Hall.

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno was sworn in for a historic sixth time, serving as the longest mayor in the City of Springfield's 388-year history.  

April Robinson served as the Mistress of Ceremonies and the Golden Voice of Springfield, Vanessa Ford, sang the National Anthem.

Mayor Sarno's daughters, Cassandra and Chiarina gave the pledge of allegiance, as they had done during their father's first inauguration ceremony back in 2008.

The High Sheriff of Hampden County, Nick Cocchi, gave the call to order, and Congressman Richard E. Neal gave greetings and congratulations from the United States government.

Bishop William Byrne gave the invocation, and Dr. Kamal Ali, Rabbi Noach Kosofsky, Bishop Talbert Swan and Pastor Eliezer Serrano provided prayers of unity.

City Clerk Gladys Oyola-Lopez swore in the members of the City Council with the Call of the Roll.

The Honorable Judge Mary E. Hurley and City Clerk Oyola-Lopez administered the Oath of Office for Mayor Sarno.

The Springfield Police and Fire Departments, and the Hampden County Sheriff's Department Honor Guard Posted and Retired the Colors.  

Mayor Sarno dedicated his sixth inauguration in the memory of his late parents, Alfonso "Al the Barber" Sarno and Clara Sarno.
