Springfield Emergency Communications Host Training Exercise for Massachusetts TERT

|   Public Safety

Springfield Emergency Communications proudly hosted a training exercise for the Massachusetts Telecommunicators Emergency Response Task Force (TERT) Program today. Mass TERT is a team of 56 certified and credentialed public safety telecommunicators who respond, relieve and assist 911 centers in times of need during or after major events. During today’s mock exercise, TERT members, including dispatchers from Belchertown, WestComm and Wilbraham, worked alongside Springfield 911 professionals simulating a real-world deployment. During this mock deployment, TERT members will have the opportunity to learn more about the Springfield operation and will prepare themselves for future deployments into this area. Springfield Emergency Communications has members on the Task Force.

Springfield Fire Deputy Chief David A. Wells states, “First I want to thank Mayor Domenic Sarno and Fire Commissioner BJ Calvi for their continued support of our Springfield Emergency Communications Division and these training exercises.  The Massachusetts TERT (Telecommunicator Emergency Response Task Force) program is team of 56 certified and credentialed public safety telecommunicators who respond, relieve and assist 911 centers in times of need during or after major events.  This vital training exercise helps to keep our dedicated 911 dispatch professionals well trained and at the ready.  I want to thank the Massachusetts TERT program team for selecting Springfield to host this training exercise.  It is important for our emergency responders, especially our dispatchers, to be trained and run exercises for different types of scenarios and events so that we are better able to respond, coordinate response with Police, Fire and other emergency first responders, and manage these stressful situations to help save lives.”

Mayor Sarno states, “I want to commend Police Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood, Fire Commissioner BJ Calvi and Deputy Chief David Wells for their steadfast dedication and keeping our Springfield emergency and first responders at the ready for any possible situation.  Springfield has seen its fair share of natural and man-made disasters and I am extremely proud that our brave and dedicated personnel have always done an excellent job in responding during and after a major event.  It is critical and important for our dispatchers, and emergency and first responders to stand at the ready to be able to respond to any event when needed.  These training exercises with key stakeholders and partners are vital to make sure that all systems are operating efficiently and communications between emergency personnel both locally and across the state and with the federal government are running smoothly to help save lives and property.”
