Mayor Sarno Congratulates Springfield’s Own and Central High School Graduate and Wrestling Champion Jon Viruet for being selected to Represent Puerto Rico as an Olympic Wrestler

Mayor Sarno states, “Way to go!  Congratulations to Jon Viruet, proud Springfield resident and wrestling champion for our Central High School Golden Eagles!  This is tremendous and a wonderful lifetime opportunity for Mr. Viruet.  All of us here in Springfield will be rooting and cheering for you.  Jon was a four-time Western Mass Champion, three-time State and All-State Champion, two-time New England Champion, and National Champion.  Not to mention all of the All-American awards he has won too.  He also had a very impressive collegiate wrestling career at Brown University.  Congratulations Jon, your hometown of Springfield will be cheering you on to bring home yet another Gold Medal!”
