Mayor Sarno and Superintendent Warwick Provide Tour of Gerena School to MSBA Officials in Continued Push for New School Building

|   City News

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Schools Superintendent Dan Warwick, Executive Director of Parks, Buildings, & Recreation Management Patrick Sullivan, Assistant Director of School Buildings Jon Carignan, My-Ron Hatchett from the Department of Capital Asset Construction (DCAC), Gerena School Principal Cynthia Escribano, Schools Chief Financial Officer Patrick Roach, and other city/school officials joined yesterday with Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) Executive Director Mary Pichetti and other MSBA officials to offer a tour of Gerena School on Birnie Avenue as part of continued efforts to build a new school building at Gerena.

Mayor Sarno states, “I am so grateful to our Massachusetts School Building Authority for requesting this tour with our city and school’s internal team and making the trip here to Springfield to see first-hand and discuss financing, as we continue to work toward getting a new school building constructed to replace the aging Gerena building.  My administration is proud to have a great working relationship with the MSBA and have successfully partnered on a number of projects. This Gerena school project is our number one school building priority and we remain hopeful that another state-of-the-art school building will be built to replace the current Gerena building on top of the three quarters of a billion dollars ($750 million) we have already accomplished in new school building construction and rehab – the most in the state. As I have stated before, my administration will continue to build new schools and rehab our schools.”
