Mayor Sarno Attends Hickory Street Harambee Festival

|   Community News

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno attended the Hickory Street Harambee Festival on Saturday at the newly created Samuel A. Bolden Park.  The annual festival began in 1968 when the late state Representative Raymond Jordan and others organized a festival to honor and celebrate the creative achievements of our African-American community in Springfield.  Thanks to the efforts of Veronica McNair, President of the Harambee Committee, and others, the festival continues the tradition of celebrating our togetherness.

Mayor Sarno states, “Veronica and her team do such a tremendous job in organizing our community and putting together this wonderful family-friendly Harambee festival.  Such a fantastic and community event that brings everyone together.  From amazing performances to wonderful food and community spirit, this is an event I look forward to attending every year.  Special thanks to all of the community partners for their efforts in making this a successful event, including the Springfield Police Department, Parks Department and the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department.”
