Mayor Sarno and Councilor Lederman attend Climate Justice Mural Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and City Council President Jesse Lederman joined with Live Well Springfield, Commonwealth Murals, Blues to Green, and community residents for a special Climate Justice Mural Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Wednesday, July 12th. The mural, painted by renowned artist Betsy Casanas, highlights the community’s activism for climate justice in our neighborhoods. Funding was provided in part by Trinity Health of New England and Blues to Green. Bomba De Aqui, a local dance group provided a short performance.

Mayor Sarno states, “My administration is a strong supporter of our local climate justice efforts.  From our Climate Action and Resilience Plan to pursuing our Community Choice Energy Initiative, our community partners are dedicated to advancing our efforts for cleaner and resilient energy options that will be sustainable and help us reduce our carbon footprint.  This climate justice mural will help increase awareness and the importance of providing sustainable and reliable energy for our residents and businesses.”

Since, 2019, Common Wealth Murals has facilitated the creation of over 39 murals in Springfield and six other communities in the state.
