Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined and spoke at the 8th Grade Step Up Graduation Ceremony for South End Middle School (SEMS) held at the Basketball Hall of Fame yesterday. Mayor Sarno was thrilled to join with South End Middle School Principal Yara DePalma-Gonzalez, Schools Superintendent Dan Warwick, and MGM Springfield President and COO Chris Kelley for the special ceremony to properly send SEMS 8th graders off to high school next year.
As part of the Adopt-a-School program with MGM Springfield, South End Middle School was the first school to be “adopted” by MGM through the program. Throughout the school year they have collaborated on a variety of positive initiatives that have benefited our students, teachers and school family at our South End Middle School.
Mayor Sarno states, “First of all, congratulations to the 8th grade class at South End Middle School! Congratulations to all the parents and families too. The entire class brought their “GQ” best today and looked fantastic as they take the next step in their education to high school and also have some fun at their Semi-Formal later today at the Basketball Hall of Fame too. Thank you, again to MGM Springfield for ‘stepping up’ to sponsor this very special milestone in our students and their family’s lives.”
“Thank you to Principal Yara DePalma-Gonzalez, Vice Principal LaTasha Greene and all teachers and staff for their dedication and support for our students. It was truly a pleasure to join for this special ceremony and recognize this community endeavor and all who helped make this a great year at South End Middle School. Superintendent Daniel Warwick and I want to, once again, thank MGM Springfield President and COO Chris Kelley and his team as well as Principal Yara DePalma-Gonzalez and the entire school for their continued collaboration on this great community partnership.”
