Mayor Sarno and City of Springfield Proudly Marched in the Second Annual Springfield Pride Parade

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno was proud to march alongside Springfield Pride Parade founder Taurean Bethea and Police Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood for the second annual Pride Parade here in Springfield. Many Springfield officials, including Health and Human Services Commissioner Helen Caulton Harris, as well as city departments marched with pride and support for the LGBTQ+ community. The parade contingents gathered at Springfield Technical Community College before marching down State Street and onto Main Street and eventually making it’s way to the special block party and celebration at Stearns Square right next to Springfield’s Restaurant Row.

Mayor Sarno stated, “I had a blast on Saturday with Taurean Bethea and our LGBTQ+ community as we marched in our second annual Springfield Pride Parade. The showing of love, support, and pride from so many area organizations, schools, businesses, and residents was fantastic and the Springfield Pride Parade Organization should also be very proud of putting on another successful event. Thank you to all our city departments who joined to march, and who worked behind the scenes to make the day a success.”

“We continue to support and celebrate all of the festivities of Pride Month. As a longtime member of Mayors Against LGBTQ Discrimination, I am proud to stand in solidarity with our LGBTQ+ community to remind all that each of us deserves the same level of equality and respect. This month in particular, we honor those who have fought for equality for our LGBTQ+ community and recognize that respecting the rights of all makes for a better city and community.”
