|   City News

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined with Springfield Fire Chief Curt Marcellin and our Caribbean community to celebrate Caribbean Heritage with a special flag raising ceremony at City Hall. Mayor Sarno presented a proclamation declaring the month of June 2023 as 'Caribbean Heritage Month' in the City of Springfield.

City Councilor Zaida Govan, Ayanna Crawford from state Representative Orlando Ramos Office, members from the Springfield Police and Fire Departments, and residents representing the various island nations were also in attendance.

Mayor Sarno states, “As we continue to honor our city’s diversity, it is important to acknowledge and recognize our Caribbean residents, families and businesses for their continued belief and investment in our Springfield.  My administration is proud to support our Caribbean community and celebrate Caribbean heritage with a flag raising ceremony at City Hall where we honor their contributions to our city and nation, and the numerous individuals and organizations that continue to give back to our youth and community.  We all know that our beloved and dearly missed Vera O'Connor is smiling down upon us from Heaven.”
