‘Courts and Some Judges Continue Revolving Door of allowing Repeat Violent Criminal Offenders Right Back on our Streets and in our Neighborhoods’

|   City News

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno comments on two recent arrests made by the Springfield Police Department, one for a suspect in connection with an April shooting on Federal Street, and another arrested on Canon Circle on gun and drug related charges. The suspects have prior firearms and drug related charges, and active warrants from Hampden Superior Court.

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno states, “With the recent gun and drug arrest of two repeat violent criminal offenders from a Federal Street shooting, and Orange Street / Canon Circle criminal activities – ‘Does this sound familiar, both individuals had active warrants for prior firearm and drug related charges – what the hell does it take to hold these repeat violent offenders!’ While our brave and dedicated men and women in Blue risk their lives to arrest these repeat violent offenders in order to keep our residents and business community safe and sound, our court system and some judges allow them right back on our streets and in our neighborhoods to continue to perpetuate mayhem and to deal poison. It is not fair, nor right to all of our law-abiding citizens of all backgrounds, to continue to be put into harm’s way. I will continue to fight for our residents and businesses and urge our state Legislature to pass my bail reform legislation, of which I thank state Representatives Angelo Puppolo for continuing to file it for me. The war on crime will remain my number one priority.”
