Mayor Sarno and Chief of Staff Ashe Surprise Shirley Manferdini for Special Birthday Celebration

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Chief of Staff Tom Ashe were thrilled to visit with lifelong Springfield resident Mrs. Shirley McKenzie Manferdini today to help her celebrate her 97th birthday with a mayoral proclamation. Shirley is a proud resident of Springfield’s Hungry Hill neighborhood and longtime parishioner at Our Lady of Hope Church. Shirley and her husband Ray were blessed with 9 beautiful children, 18 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Along with spending time with family, some of Shirley’s favorite things to do are reading, visiting the casino, watching the Hallmark channel, and like Mayor Sarno, she is a big fan of the Pink Panther movies.

Mayor Sarno stated, “A very special happy birthday shout out to Mrs. Shirley Manferdini. It was honor to celebrate with Shirley today who has lived here in Springfield for her entire life and is so proud of her city and Hungry Hill community. We wish you a very happy and healthy birthday, Shirley!”

“‘P.S. Mrs. Manferdini – I thought you said your dog doesn’t bite?’ ‘It’s not my dog.’” (lines from the Pink Panther movie).
