Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined with the students, teachers, faculty and staff at Elias Brookings School as the Springfield Thunderbirds visited to award the school with the special Thunderbirds Game Changers Award. In addition, T-Birds mascots Boomer and Brookings mascot Sr. Brookings went head-to-head in a friendly floor hockey game, won by Sr. Brookings 3-2.
Mayor Sarno states, “I want to thank the Springfield Thunderbirds for taking the time to acknowledge and recognize all of our teachers, students, faculty and staff at our schools for the tremendous work they do day-in and day-out not only for our children but for our community too. This was such a wonderful event here at our Brookings School, which accepted the award on behalf of all our schools and the Springfield Public Schools family. They all work hard every day to help our students learn and grow and truly emphasis that education is the foundation of life. Special thanks to Brookings School Counselor Gianna Allentuck and Principal Terry Powe for everything they do for our students too.”
