Mayor Sarno served as Celebrity Meal Driver for GSSS Meals on Wheels Program

|   City News

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno surprised some of our Springfield seniors today as a celebrity meal driver for the Greater Springfield Senior Services (GSSS) Meals on Wheels Program. This year marks the 51st anniversary celebration of local and national Senior Nutrition Programs.

Mayor Sarno joined with Jill Keough, Executive Director for GSSS and her dedicated team to thank the wonderful kitchen staff at their facility on Carando Drive.  The GSSS kitchen staff prepares an average of 1,100 meals every day for our seniors.  From there Mayor Sarno joined with Jill and her team, including dedicated meals driver Jorge Mendez to deliver scheduled warm and cold meals from GSSS to seniors at Independence House.

Mayor Sarno states, “I want to thank GSSS Executive Director Jill Keough and her dedicated team for the tremendous work they do day-in and day-out, especially with their senior nutrition program for our senior residents.  Special shoutout to Jorge Mendez who does such a wonderful job delivering meals for our seniors.  Not only does he deliver warm and cold meals as part of the GSSS Meals Program but his interaction with our seniors provides much needed social interaction and well-being checks too.”

“For 51 years, GSSS has helped our seniors with eating healthy, decrease social isolation and improving their overall health.  My administration is a strong supporter and advocate of the great work GSSS does for our Springfield community and it was my honor to serve as their celebrity meal driver to help raise awareness on this special event.”
