Springfield Police Department Holds Promotion Ceremony

The Springfield Police Department held a promotional ceremony today at City Hall. The pinning ceremony saw the promotion of 1 Lieutenant and 4 Sergeants. Police Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood and Mayor Sarno's Chief of Staff Tom Ashe brought greetings and congratulated the officers and their families.

Springfield Police Superintendent Clapprood promoted Sergeant Louis Rosario to the rank of Lieutenant on December 11th.  She also promoted officers Mark Evans, Christopher Roberts, David Robillard and Jason Sleeper to the rank of Sergeant.  These promotions became effective Sunday February 12th. 

“This is an important time for the Springfield Police Department as we continue to move forward and modernize our operations.  To be successful as a department a lot of it begins with our first-line Supervisors.  Our new Sergeants have various levels of experience and backgrounds which should be a benefit to our young officers in the Squads.  I’d also like to thank and congratulate Lt. Rosario who has continued to help us through some transitions in the department.  I wish everyone the best of luck and future success as they have all reached a career milestone that these officers and their families should be proud of,” said Springfield Police Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood. 

Mayor Sarno states, “Police Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood and I want to thank all of our brave and dedicated police officers and their families for the work they do day-in and day-out.  Congratulations to those officers being promoted.  These promotions are well earned and deserved.  Superintendent Clapprood and I want to express our thanks and appreciation to all of our brave and dedicated men and women in blue for their continued service to our residents and business community.  Again, congratulations to all of our newly promoted officers. Lieutenant Louis Rosario

Lieutenant Louis Rosario began his career as a Springfield Police Cadet in 1989 before becoming a police officer in 1992 and a Sergeant in 2016.  The Springfield native graduated from the High School of Commerce before receiving an Associate’s Degree from STCC and a Bachelor’s Degree from Western New England University.  Rosario has worked in the Uniform division across all three squads, as well as the Youth Aid, Student Support, Gang Suppression and Narcotics Units.  He is currently assigned to the Internal Investigations Unit.  Rosario has received Springfield Police Commendations for an ice pond rescue, work in the Gang Suppression Unit and the apprehension of a Bank Robbery suspect.  Lt. Rosario wanted to thank his wife of 28 years Debbie, sons Salvatore and Anthony, parents, in-laws and friends for their continued support. Lt. Rosario was pinned by retired Springfield Police Sergeant Wilfredo Ferrer.

Sergeant Mark Evans

In 2016 Sergeant Mark Evans joined the Springfield Police Department as an officer.  After working in the uniform division Evans has been assigned to the Detective Bureau for the past three-plus years.  The Ludlow High School graduate attended Worcester State University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice in 2013.  He is currently assigned as a Supervisor with the Squad C Uniform Division.  Sgt. Evans was pinned by his daughter Christina, accompanied by his wife Nicole. 

Sergeant Christopher Roberts

Sgt. Christopher Roberts began working for the city of Springfield as a Dispatcher in 2010 before joining the Springfield Police Department four years later.  The Cathedral High School graduated was born and raised in Springfield.  Roberts also hold a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Westfield State University.  He has worked in the Uniform Division and Student Support Unit and has earned a Springfield Police Commendation and a Life-Saving Award from AMR during his tenure as a police officer.  Roberts also received his departmental Physical Fitness Award.  He is currently assigned as a Supervisor with the Squad A Uniform Division.  Sgt. Roberts is married with two children and was pinned by his son David. 

Sergeant David Robillard

Born and raised in Springfield, Sgt. David Robillard has served the city of Springfield for 15 years.  Prior to becoming a police officer, Robillard was serving his country.  He enlisted in the United States Army in 2003 and has operational experience in both Afghanistan and Iraq.  Robillard remains a member of the Army National Guard.  The Cathedral High School graduate obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Westfield State University and is currently enrolled in its Masters’ program.  Robillard most recently was assigned to the FBI Gang Task Force and previously had assignments in C3 Mason Square and the Firearms Investigation Unit.  Robillard has received a Springfield Police Commendation for his role in apprehending an armed robbery suspect.  He is currently assigned as a Supervisor with the Squad C Uniform Division.  Sgt. Robillard was pinned by his father David.  

Sergeant Jason Sleeper

Sgt. Jason Sleeper has served the city of Springfield for more than 25 years as a Police Officer.  Born and raised in Springfield, Sleeper is a 1992 graduate of Central High School.  During his quarter-century protecting our community Sleeper has been in the Uniform Division, Student Support Unit and C-3 North End Units.  Sleeper also served our country in the Army National Guard.  He is currently assigned as a Supervisor with the Squad C Uniform Division.  Sgt. Sleeper was pinned by his son Alexander.
