|   City News

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno was honored to bring greetings and kickoff the walk with state and local officials as they gathered together on Sunday morning to participate in the first Western Massachusetts Winter Walk to help raise awareness and support programs and initiatives to prevent and end homelessness in the region. The event was sponsored by the Western Massachusetts Network to End Homelessness.

Holyoke Mayor Joshua Garcia, Northampton Mayor Gina-Louise Sciarra, City Council President Jesse Lederman, State Senators Jacob Oliveira and John Velis, State Representatives Bud Williams, Shirley Arriaga and Mindy Domb, Springfield Health and Human Services Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris, Springfield Housing Director Gerry McCafferty, Winter Walk Executive Director Ari Barbanell and former WWLP 22 News Anchor Jackie Bruno were among those in attendance.

Mayor Sarno states, “I want to thank Pamela Schwartz, Director of the Western Mass Network to End Homelessness, and her team for organizing this event, they did a fantastic job – first time out and what a tremendous showing, over 400 participants, even with the frigid cold front this weekend.  I was glad to donate and be a part of this great event to help raise awareness and support the programs and initiatives to prevent and end homelessness in the region.

P.S. You know it’s cold when I am wearing a hat too!”
