Mayor Sarno visits with 8th Grade Students at Duggan Academy

|   City News

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno visited with the 8th grade students at Duggan Academy yesterday to talk to the kids about the importance of an education, hard work and to always strive for your dreams.  Mayor Sarno shared his own experience and background, himself being a student of Springfield Public Schools, going on to serve as the Executive Director for the South End Community Center to running for City Council and now having the honor to serve as the longest tenured mayor in the city’s history.  Mayor Sarno also mentioned how Ruth E. Carter, also from Springfield, went on to achieve her dreams and was recently nominated for her second Oscar Award for her work in costume design in the movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

“Never let your zip code define who you are and always work hard to do what you love,” Mayor Sarno said.  “I want to thank Vice Principal April Robinson, Jonathan Gill, 8th Grade Dean of Students, and Principal Michael Calvanese for inviting me to visit and speak with the students. I’d especially like to thank student ambassador Paul Smith for his hospitality too.  I always enjoy visiting and talking to our Springfield Public School students.  The 8th grade students at Duggan Academy are smart, respectful and have a bright future ahead of them.  I want to wish them all good health and continued success in all of their future endeavors.”
