Roca, through the Clean Sweep Initiative, will be dedicating three five-member teams that will be responding to quality of life calls placed into the city’s 311 Call Center by residents to address litter throughout the city. This partnership will continue into the summer with an option to renew or extend the contract.

Mayor Sarno states, “I want to thank PBRM Director Patrick Sullivan and his dedicated team for their continued efforts in operating, managing, and promoting our citywide litter campaign to help address this important quality of life issue. This Clean Sweep Initiative and the partnership with Roca will expand our Clean City and DPW team initiatives and partnership with Hampden County Sheriff Nick Cocchi crews to help keep our streets and neighborhoods clean and litter free.”
“As I have stated before, we’ve been working on this expansion of quality of life services,” Mayor Sarno continued. “This is the culmination of a number of prior meetings I have had with Roca leadership officers. I look forward to working with local Director Solomon Baymon and team.”
PBRM Director Sullivan stated, “The Department of Parks and Buildings is pleased to partner with Roca to address city wide litter concerns. Having three Roca crews assigned daily to the city of Springfield will assist the department in improving the quality of life for our residents. I want to thank Mayor Sarno for prioritizing this Clean Sweep Initiative. Residents can call 311 or email the city at litter@springfieldcityhall.com. These calls and emails will be assigned to work crews to address the cleanup. Collectively, we will work through our Neighborhood Councils and area businesses to address chronic litter areas and develop an approach to curb litter at these locations. I remain hopeful if everyone does their part and cleans in front of their house or business, we can start the process of eliminating litter from our city.”
The Department of Public Works (DPW) would like to encourage residents and businesses to keep the areas in front of their property free from litter and debris. The DPW, working with the Parks Department, the Sheriff’s Department and other key stakeholders, is committed to keeping the city clean year-round by providing street sweepers citywide, free yard waste recycling and drop off for Springfield residents, affordable bulk pick up, single-stream recycling, large trash barrel pick up for residential units, and holding household hazardous waste collections.
