Mayor Sarno Joins Springfield BID to Welcome the 6th Annual Ice Invasion to Springfield in time for Red Sox Winter Weekend

|   Community News

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined today with the Springfield Business Improvement District (SBID) to see one of over a dozen ice sculptures installed downtown in front of City Hall as part of the 6th Annual Ice Invasion presented by the Springfield Thunderbirds and Charlie Arment Trucking.

During the ice invasion from January 19th through January 22nd you will be able to see a different ice art installation on almost every corner of our downtown. The Invasion coincides with the 7th annual Red Sox Winter Weekend hosted here by MGM Springfield where many of the Red Sox players, coaches and greats will be in town before heading down to spring training. Be on the lookout for baseball inspired ice sculptures around downtown among the diverse line up of sculptures from MGM Springfield down to the dining district on Worthington.

Snap some photos and share them on Instagram, tagging @springfielddowntown for a chance to win Dunkin gift cards, and don’t miss the Dunkin’ Mobile outside Springfield Visitors Center on the corner of Bruce Landon Way and Main Street on Saturday morning. Mayor Domenic J. Sarno stated, “This is one of the best weekends to be in downtown Springfield and we are excited to have over a dozen unique ice sculptures installed throughout our downtown.  Thank you to the Springfield BID team for continuing this fun winter tradition of the Springfield Ice Invasion. From enjoying the different ice sculptures and dining options to welcoming the Boston Red Sox to our Springfield before they head south for Spring Training, there is excitement everywhere.”

“Although City Hall’s own, Al Rodriguez is a die-hard Yankee Fan, even he took the time to appreciate and cheer the return of the Ice Invasion and the Red Sox Winter Weekend,” Mayor Sarno added.
