Mayor Sarno Announces IBPO Local 364 Votes to Ratify New Contract

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Human Resources and Labor Relations Director Attorney William Mahoney announced today that the International Brotherhood of Police Officers (IBPO) Local 364 has voted to ratify a new labor contract.

The IBPO Local 364 represents approximately 400 police officers with the Springfield Police Department. 

Mayor Sarno states, “I want to thank Human Resources and Labor Relations Director Attorney Bill Mahoney, Police Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood, my Chief of Staff Tom Ashe and Officer Joe Gentile and the Union leadership of IBPO Local 364 for all of us working together and negotiating a fair and mutually beneficial contract for all parties.  I deeply appreciate the continued efforts from our brave and dedicated men and women of our Springfield Police Department.  My administration looks forward to continuing to move our Springfield Police Department forward with the many reforms and initiatives, many of which have already been implemented, that will provide the best public safety aspects and enhance the quality of life for our residents and business community.  Police Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood and I will continue to move our Police Department forward as we continue to adhere and the meet the requirements from the DOJ settlement agreement and work with the Compliance Evaluator so that we have the best police force for all our citizens.”

HR and Labor Relations Director Mahoney stated, “The City’s bargaining team congratulates IBPO Local 364 President Joe Gentile, the Union’s bargaining team and the bargaining unit members on the ratification of their Union contracts which will provide the necessary tools to make continuous improvements in the Springfield Police Department. These contracts benefit our employees as well as the citizens of Springfield.”

IBPO President Joe Gentile said, “When the DOJ report was issued, the city, the Police Department, and the unions said we would work together to make changes that would improve SPD, and allow us to provide the best service to the citizens and businesses of Springfield.  This contract exhibits just that.”

The ratified contract covers the period from July 1, 2020-June 30, 2021 and July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2024. The contract will now be sent to the City Council in the very near future for review and a consideration vote of approval.
