Mayor Sarno Speaks at Hope for Youth and Families Foundation Special Military Careers Inspirational Speakers Event at Springfield Symphony Hall

|   City News

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno brought opening remarks at the Hope for Youth and Families Foundation’s special Military Careers Inspirational Speakers Event at the historic Springfield Symphony Hall. Mayor Sarno encouraged the students in attendance to stay focused, always be respectful, and to never let their zip code determine their future. He also encouraged them to ask questions and learn more about a particular career path that they might be interested in pursuing.

Also speaking at the event was Jose Escribano, Chief of Family and Community Engagement for the Springfield Public Schools; Shirley Arriaga, US Air Force Veteran with the 337th Airlift Squadron; Damion Harper, Massachusetts Army National Guard Sgt. First Class; and Luis Rodriguez, Sergeant for the Massachusetts State Police and Colonel for the Massachusetts Army National Guard.

Mayor Sarno stated, “I want to thank Bob Bolduc and the Hope for Youth and Families Foundation team for putting on this wonderful and supportive program, the first of a number of career path events that will be presented in the future.  Even in retirement Mr. Bolduc continues to give back to our Springfield community, especially for our youth.  What a tremendous event.  The speakers were all wonderful and their stories on what lead them to pursue a career in military service was truly heartfelt.  This is a wonderful event for our young people to learn more about the opportunities a career in the United States military can offer and the opportunities that might become available.  Serving our country is an honorable and proud profession and can open the doors for many great opportunities in the public or private sector.”
