Mayor Sarno, Chief of Staff Ashe and GSCVB President Mary Kay Wydra Excited to Host Ironman to Western Massachusetts

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Chief of Staff Tom Ashe joined with Mary Kay Wydra, President of the Greater Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau in sharing their excitement for Springfield to host the Ironman 70.3 event in Western Massachusetts next year. As a thank you to Mayor Sarno and the city team for helping to coordinate and facilitate the complex logistics for this event, Dave Christen from Ironman presented Mayor Sarno with a ceremonial hatchet which symbolizes the coordinated efforts of ‘chopping some wood’, and the hard work and strength involved in making an event of this magnitude possible.

Mayor Sarno stated, “I want to thank my Chief of Staff Tom Ashe and Mary Kay Wydra and her team at the Greater Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau for their efforts and hard work in making this event possible for our Springfield.  Working with all of our local partners, my administration is excited to welcome and host the Ironman 70.3 event here in Springfield!  Thank you to Dave Christen from Ironman for the symbolic hatchet and yes, we are looking forward to some hard work and ‘chopping some wood’, to make this a successful and wonderful event.”
