MGM Springfield, in working with Superintendent Warwick, has created a new ‘Adopt-a-School’ program where each school year MGM Springfield will adopt a different school in the city. In working with that school and staff, MGM Springfield will identify and try to fulfill the various needs of the students, teachers and staff. The South End Middle School has been chosen as the first school. Some of the various initiatives MGM Springfield will look to do includes: coat drive, and sprucing up the teacher’s lounge over the winter break.
During the announcement, MGM Springfield set up a ‘Top Chef’ style cooking demonstration with their Executive Chef Omar and team. MGM Springfield set up a professional kitchen in the school gym and had an all-student assembly where their Chef and team spoke to the students and cooked up some fabulous treats (with the help of several students) for the students to enjoy. The goal is to teach healthy cooking and kitchen safety, and to just get kids excited about eating right.
Mayor Sarno states, “Superintendent Daniel Warwick and I want to thank MGM Springfield President and COO Chris Kelley and his team for their continued community engagement efforts. MGM Springfield continues to be active with their corporate giving campaign and support of our community. From providing much needed water for our cooling centers to donating to various nonprofits and organizations that provide assistance and services for our residents, MGM Springfield has been a good corporate citizen. This Adopt-a-School program will provide a variety of positive initiatives that will benefit our students, teachers and school family at our South End Middle School. Superintendent Warwick and I are excited about this initial launch and looking forward to expanding this program in the future.”
Superintendent Warwick stated, “We are so pleased and grateful that MGM has chosen to adopt neighboring South End Middle School. This partnership exemplifies for other businesses and organizations the creative ways they can help make a difference in the lives of children. MGM has stepped up to the plate and we look forward to a long-lasting relationship.”
“Corporate social responsibility and giving back is at the core of everything we do at MGM Springfield,” said MGM Springfield President Chris Kelley. “We are proud to be a part of this community and are grateful for the opportunity to make an impact on our local schools through the Adopt-a-School initiative. We hope the students had as much fun as we did putting on today’s cooking program.”
