Mayor Sarno Commends City Retirement Board and will Sponsor an Order to Increasing Retirees Base Pay for City Council Approval

|   City News

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno commended the decision by the Springfield Retirement Board to increase retirees base pay and will sponsor an order for the City Council to consider which would increase Springfield retirees’ maximum base amount by $1,000 – from $13,000 to $14,000. This is on top of the regular 3% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) increase.

Mayor Sarno states, “I indicated to the board that we pride ourselves on our prudent fiscal management, but with these unprecedented times of a 40 year high in inflation and a looming recession, it is imperative that we assist our long-term retirees/seniors, ‘to make ends meet’.  I commend the Board’s actions and do not want our retirees/seniors to have to make the difficult decisions whether to get their medicine and/or put food on the table.  Again, and simply put, it’s the right thing to do.”
