|   Community News

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, State Representatives Carlos Gonzalez, Orlando Ramos and Jacob Olivera, City Councilors Maria Perez, Tim Allen, Zaida Govan and Kateri Walsh joined American Medical Response (AMR) Springfield and the Earn While You Learn Class today to celebrate Hispanic heritage month. Erica Bishop, AMR Account Executive, emceed the event and Esias Valentin, a recent Earn While You Learn graduate and EMT spoke about his experience graduating and the opportunity the program gave him and what Hispanic heritage means to him.

Mayor Sarno stated, “I want to congratulate AMR and all of the members of the Earn While You Learn program as we celebrate the beautiful mosaic that is our city of Springfield during Hispanic Heritage Month.  Special shoutout to Esias Valentin who after graduating from the Earn While You Learn program to become an EMT is now continuing with the program to become a Paramedic.  This tremendous program offers those interested in a career as an EMT to earn a living wage while they are learning and getting the experience needed to advance in their career.  Our first responders often times see us at our worse, so it is just as important that we thank and recognize them for the work they do in helping to save lives and helping those in need, no matter their background, race, sex or language.”
