Mayor Sarno presented a proclamation declaring the month of October 2022 as Energy Efficiency Month in the City of Springfield. Councilors Govan and Lederman issued a City Council Citation recognizing Energy Efficiency Month too.
Springfield and Ener-G-Save have already made significant, forward-thinking investments in energy. Reducing the energy used by homes and businesses benefits everyone, especially energy bill-payers. The average household saves almost $500 yearly thanks to efficiency standards that apply to new appliances such as dishwashers, refrigerators, and water heaters, alone.
Springfield is participating in the Mass Save Community First Partnership (CFP) program, along with 30 other municipalities and 4 community-based organizations across Massachusetts. Each project benefits from funding and support to implement energy efficiency outreach, with particular attention to those who have been underserved.
Mayor Sarno and Patrick Sullivan, PBRM Director, spoke about how the City of Springfield has already made significant, forward-thinking investments in energy savings for municipal buildings, as part of Springfield’s Comprehensive Energy Master Plan and Climate Action Plan, which builds towards an eco-friendly and sustainable future. Under the leadership of PBRM Director Sullivan Springfield is proud to report an over 25% reduction in energy usage for municipal and school buildings.
Mayor Sarno states, “I want to thank my friend and local philanthropist Harold Grinspoon for his continued belief and support of our Springfield. I also want to thank Council President Jesse Lederman, Councilor Zaida Govan and Ayanna Crawford, representing Ener-G-Save, for their efforts working with PBRM Director Patrick Sullivan and my administration to help increase awareness and meet our local environmental and energy efficiency goals. My administration is proud to partner with Ener-G-Save and the Mass Save Community First Partnership program to help reduce our carbon footprint, and just as important save our residents money. The work my administration continues to do to become more energy efficient is a benefit not only to our environment, but also to our bottom line. The City of Springfield remains committed to energy efficiency and, this month especially, we encourage our residents and business community to take advantage of these pollution cutting and cost saving measures.”
Councilor Govan thanked Mayor Sarno and Director Sullivan for their efforts in having the city reach its energy usage reduction goals for municipal and school buildings and encouraged residents to take advantage of this Ener-G-Save program to help reduce their energy bills, especially with the winter months soon approaching.
Ayanna Crawford, representing Ener-G-Save, spoke about the many programs offered to help residents become more energy efficient and save money with their energy bills.
