|   City News

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno announced today that Genesis Velez Roque will be joining the Mayor’s Office as a Mayoral Aide. Minerva ‘Mini’ Marrero, who previously served as mayoral aide, will transition into her new role as the Mayor’s new Administrative Assistant, a position formerly held by Melissa Mitchell who moved on to pursue another career opportunity.

Velez Roque, a Springfield resident, previously worked as a Customer Service Representative for the city of Springfield’s Collectors Office.  She holds an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from Holyoke Community College and brings an extensive background in the customer service field.

Velez Roque, who was born in Puerto Rico, moved to Springfield after the island was devastated from Hurricane Maria.  During her transition of adjusting to her new life in Springfield, she worked various jobs while putting herself through college.

Mayor Sarno states, “On behalf of my entire staff, we want to welcome Genesis Velez Roque to the Mayor’s Office.  She has an incredible story to tell.  From moving to Springfield from Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria to working various jobs while putting herself through college to earning a degree to working in our city of Springfield’s Collectors Office and now here in the Mayor’s Office.  Ms. Velez Roque brings a wealth of customer service experience and will be a tremendous asset for my office.”

“I am also excited to announce that Mini Marrero is being promoted and will serve as my new administrative assistant,” Mayor Sarno added.  “Mini has been a dedicated and stalwart aide in my office for the past eight years and I have the utmost confidence in her abilities to serve in this new role for my Mayor’s Office.”

Velez Roque stated, “I want to thank Mayor Sarno for his confidence in my abilities and for giving me opportunity to serve the city that I now call home.  I am excited to begin this next chapter in my career working in the Mayor’s Office and helping our residents and businesses.”

All members of the Mayor’s staff are Springfield residents.
