Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined with Police Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood, Deputy Chief Rupert Daniel, Sgt. Jamie Bruno, Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer Judi Crowell and city officials to showcase and highlight the new gym and workout area for Springfield police officers at the Springfield Police Department.

Mayor Sarno states, “This new gym and workout facility area at our Springfield Police Department will provide our brave and dedicated officers with a recreational area so that they can focus and maintain their physical, mental and emotional health.  In addition, this new gym area will help out officers stay physically fit and help with any physical rehabilitation they may need in the comfort of their work environment.  I want to thank Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood, Deputy Chief Rupert Daniel and CAFO TJ Plante and Director of Capital Asset Construction Peter Garvey for working together to get this project done for the benefit of our officers.”

Police Superintendent Clapprood stated, “The brave and dedicated women and men of the Springfield Police Department deserve the best equipment and facility we can provide.  I want to thank Mayor Sarno and the finance team for working with my department so that we can provide our SPD officers with this new gym and workout area.  I am proud to say that over 50 officers have so far signed up to utilize this new facility.  This new in-house gym facility will allow officers to relax and focus on their physical, mental and emotional health in the comforts of a safe and secure environment.  It can also provide an additional benefit of helping officers who may be recovering from an injury with rehabilitation aspects too.”

Deputy Chief Daniels said, “This has been a dream for our Springfield Police Department for decades.  Maintaining ones physical, mental and emotional fitness and wellbeing is important.  I want to thank Superintendent Clapprood for her leadership in making this project a priority for our officers, supervisors and all SPD personnel.  This new gym facility will serve our officers well and will pay dividends by providing our officers with a dedicated area for them to work on their physical conditioning and focus on their mental and emotional wellbeing too.”
