Mayor Sarno and Fire Commissioner Calvi Announce Springfield Fire Department Awarded 2022 Community Mitigation Funding

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Fire Commissioner BJ Calvi are pleased to announce that the Massachusetts Gaming Commission has awarded the Springfield Fire Department $41,300 in 2022 Community Mitigation Funding for Extrication Tools.

Grant funding will go towards the purchase of extrication tools and equipment, including a Genesis eForce Cutter, Genesis eForce Spreader, Genesis eForce Telescopic Ram, and a Genesis 3 Bay Battery Charger.  This group of equipment is more commonly known as the ‘jaws of life’.   

Mayor Sarno states, “Fire Commissioner BJ Calvi and I want to thank the Massachusetts Gaming Commission for awarding our 2022 Community Mitigation Fund Specific Impact Application for extrication tools.  My administration has made it a priority to enhance and upgrade our emergency response equipment and technology so that our brave and dedicated men and women of the Springfield Fire Department can respond to any serious incident with efficiency and effectiveness.  These lifesaving tools and equipment will be put into immediate service to save lives.”

Fire Commissioner Calvi stated, “I want to thank Mayor Sarno for making this a priority of his administration.  Thank you to the Gaming Commission for this award.  This mission critical piece of equipment will allow the Springfield Fire Department to respond with greater efficiency in the casino area.”
