Chief of Staff Ashe and DPW Director Cignoli meet with St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral and Greek Cultural Center to discuss Roadway and Pedestrian Enhancements

|   City News

Chief of Staff Tom Ashe and DPW Director Chris Cignoli met with members from the St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral and Greek Cultural Center today to discuss roadway and pedestrian enhancements along Plainfield Street by the Greek Cultural Center. The conceptual designs being reviewed and considered will enhance visibility of pedestrians crossing the street, along with the installation of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB), and assist with visibility between drivers and slowing down traffic and potentially reducing queue lengths at the traffic lights.

Mayor Sarno states, “I want to thank DPW Director Chris Cignoli and his team of engineers for doing a thorough job in presenting these conceptual design plans to help mitigate traffic and increase pedestrian safety on Plainfield Street by St. George Greek Cathedral and our Greek Cultural Center.  Simply put, this is not about money it is about public safety.  The conceptual designs will enhance the safety for our pedestrians, and help control and mitigate the flow of traffic on one of our city’s busiest public roads.  Working with Police Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood and her brave and dedicated men and women in blue, we will continue with our active traffic enforcement not just on Plainfield Street but also across our City.  Now we need our courts to back these citations and not dismiss them.”
