Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined with Health and Human Services Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris and Elder Affairs Director Sandy Federico today for the Elder Affairs Department’s ‘Derby de Mayo’ community partnership event. The event featured a putting green, fancy derby hats and sombreros, piñatas, mock cocktails, treats, and a number of city departments and community partners sharing information about their programs and services with seniors.
Mayor Sarno stated, “This was another excellent themed party by our Elder Affairs team. It is always a pleasure to visit and chat with our Springfield seniors, and I loved seeing everyone dressed in their Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo attire. Thank you Commissioner Caulton Harris, Director Federico, and all our community partners for a great afternoon. Shout out to our Massachusetts State Police and UMass Amherst Mounted Police Unit for making the event extra-special with a visit from Miranda the Horse who is a member UMass Amherst’s Mounted Police. It was a pleasure to see everyone and wishing all a happy Mother’s Day weekend.”
