Springfield Police and Fire Departments Take Part in 57th Annual Youth Fishing Derby with “Cops and Bobbers, Hooks and Ladders” Program

|   Community News

Police Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood was pleased to announce that officers from the Springfield Police Department and members of the Springfield Fire Department participated in the annual Fishing Derby this past weekend, sponsored by the Springfield Elks Lodge #61.

Kids learned the basics of fishing from volunteers and were able to fish alongside Springfield’s first responders.

Fishing equipment was provided, as needed. Kids fished in a stocked pond and trophies were awarded for catching a tagged trout.

“We look forward to taking part in this event each year and thank the Springfield Elks Lodge for inviting us to participate,” Superintendent Clapprood said. “The Fishing Derby gives our officers the opportunity to get to know kids in our community through a fun and interactive activity, and we look forward to another great event this year.”

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno states, “Police Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood, Fire Commissioner BJ Calvi and I want to thank my brother and sister Elks for sponsoring the annual Fishing Derby with Cops and Bobbers and Hooks and Ladders for kids.  This family friendly event is great fun and our brave and dedicated men and women police officers and firefighters love coming together with the community for these fun and interactive activities.”
