Mayor Sarno and Fire Commissioner Calvi Hold Promotion and Graduation Ceremony for Springfield Fire Department

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Fire Commissioner BJ Calvi held a special promotion and graduation ceremony for the Springfield Fire Department (SFD) today at the Raymond M. Sullivan Safety Complex. Police Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood, Deputy Chief David Wells, Deputy Chief Michael Hess, District Chief Tyrone Denson, Captain Drew Piemonte and the SFD leadership team and members of the Springfield Fire Department as well as the family and friends of those being honored also attended. SFD Chaplin Fr. Gary Dailey blessed the ceremony with an opening prayer.

Promoted today were District Chief Miguel Rivera, Captain Anthony Santaniello, Lieutenant Brian Couture, Lieutenant Jason Fitzgerald and Lieutenant Jack Casey.  The two new Springfield Fire Department recruits are Gabrielle Bey and Jeffery Holmes. 

Mayor Sarno states, “Congratulations to all those being promoted and to the two new recruits and their families.  These promotions are well-deserved and earned.  To the new recruits, again congratulations – Commissioner Calvi and I are looking forward to working with you to protect and serve our residents and business community.  We must always remember and never forget when everyone else is running out of the building, our brave and dedicated firefighters and police officers are running in to save lives and structures.  On behalf of the residents of our great city, we thank you for your continued efforts in keeping our community safe and we truly appreciate your service to our Springfield.”   

Commissioner Calvi stated, “Congratulations to our newest District Chief, Captain, Lieutenants and recruits and their families.  These promotions and newly appointed firefighters are well earned and are a result of your hard work and dedication.  On behalf of the Springfield Fire Department, I wish to congratulate everyone for their continued efforts and service on behalf of our residents and business community.  Job well done.”
